Course Description
The Kiwanis Kingston Classic 5k race will be held along the waterfront in Downtown Kingston. The course will start on East Strand directly in front of the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Runners will head straight out to the end of East Strand and go straight onto North Street. Runners will cross Delaware Avenue and continue onto the Brickyard Trail. At 1.5 miles (Salt Hotel property) it turns around and the runners proceed back to the start/finish line. The 5k course is out and back.
Traffic Control and Safety
Our main concern for the runners and walkers is their safety. We will have barricades and volunteers all along the course for traffic control, as well as police in critical areas. However, we also need to be aware of the inconvenience to vehicular traffic and the amount of time we keep our volunteers on the course. Our goal is to open up most of the intersections except for the finish line area by 11:30 am and noon. This should give the the 5K and 1.5 mile participants time to finish and the last 10k runners should be off Delaware Avenue and inside Rotary Park. We will keep the portion of the Strand to the finish line staffed until 12:00 pm and will keep the finish line open as long as possible. Runners will be informed when we open up traffic and we ask you to stay on the proper side of the road for your safety
