Welcome Back To The
Kiwanis Kingston Classic

The Kiwanis Club of Kingston is proud to welcome you back to the 40th, yes, the 40th Annual Kiwanis Kingston Classic. Once again in 2024, Kiwanis will host the Kingston Classic, keeping the run in the historic waterfront district of the Rondout area of Kingston. Additionally, we will continue to use the Hutton Brickyard trail as part of the racecourse. This provided for more safety for the runners, a trail that was easy on your legs, and a scenic family fun run day. (Please see a description and map of courses on race info page). Again for 2024 there will be a 10K, 5K and a 1.5 mile, walk/run. Join fellow runners for fun, camaraderie, a great course, and a great post-race party which will be held at Ole Savannah on the creek complete with food, beer, ice cream and music.

The run is Sunday April 28, 2024, with the 10K and 5k starting at 10:00 am and the 1.5 mile run/walk starting at 10:15 am. A Post-race party and awards ceremony will immediately follow the race.

The 10K Mayors Cup team challenge category is also available for groups and clubs and teams will compete for the most runners that complete the course. A participation Trophy will be given to the team with the most runners in a combination of all the races. All groups and organizations are encouraged to compete and have fun with this.

What could be better than an affordable, well-organized event with a great post-race party on a Sunday morning supplying books for kids?? And there will be awards in all 3 races! Come join us!

The course is relatively flat with a few rolling upgrades and a couple of more challenging upgrades along the way.  There will be many views of the Rondout Creek with a spectacular view of the Hudson River while running through Rotary Park and scenic view of the Kingston Light House on the rail trail towards the end of the race

RACE INFO AND CHANGES FOR 2024

As we want to continue to encourage families and small children, we again have the 1.5 Mile Walk/Run designed for them. The goal is to have an event that can include our entire community and we feel we made that happen. Based on feedback we had the 1.5 mile as a fun run/ walk is a success. This year (2024) we will again be timing the 1.5 mile run and giving awards to finishers in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places for all age groups. Their names will be listed just like the other races.

For 2024 we are not changing the 5K and 10K run start times of 10:00 am and the 1.5 Mile start of 10:15 am. These start times were a good recommendation and were a much better idea for all involved. We beat the heat of the day, got people in and out earlier, made traffic control and parking much easier and made the race better for the downtown businesses.

A change we made was moving Registration and Packet Pickup were moved to the Hudson River Maritime Museum Barn. This made the pickup and registration easier to find and work with.

Kiwanis made the decision to change the gift we gave to runners. Last year Instead of giving an item to each runner we began the Books for Kids Swag Program, where we give a book to a child in the name of the finishing runner. This proved successful and with donations added to this program, we wound up donating 2,600 books (with the help of teachers) to the students in George Washington School. This was a positive move, letting the runners help a child, as well as assisting Kiwanis in providing the funding and volunteerism to get the books to the children.

During registration, please be reminded that you must have the correct size marked on the paper and online applications with a choice of men’s or women’s shirt. Keep in mind that in previous years they ran small. Also, please be aware of the cutoff dates to be guaranteed a t-shirt.

Any questions or concerns contact us at [email protected] and we hope you have a wonderful Kiwanis Kingston Classic experience!
