Course Description

The Kiwanis Kingston Classic 2.1 Mile Walk/Run will be located in Downtown Kingston along the waterfront starting at T.R. Gallo Park and ending under the John T. Loughran Bridge on Rondout Landing near the Rip Van Winkle tour boat.

The course will take participants along Dock Street after leaving T.R. Gallo Park and return to the Business District of Downtown Kingston. It will continue on Rondout Landing and The Strand turning around at Abruyn Street and back to the finish line under the John T. Loughran Bridge.

The course is relatively flat except for one small upgrade and is suitable for all, including children.  This event is designed to be family oriented and we welcome baby strollers and pets but suggest they start at the back of the pack.

Traffic Control and Safety

Our  main concern for the runners and walkers is their safety.  We will have barricades and volunteers all along the course for traffic control, as well as police in critical areas.  However, we also need to be aware of the inconvenience to vehicular traffic and the amount of time we keep our volunteers on the course.  Our goal is to open up most of the intersections except for the finish line area by 2:30 pm.  This should give the 2 mile participants time to finish and the last 10k runners should be off Delaware Avenue and inside Rotary Park.  We will keep the portion of the Strand to the finish line staffed until 3:00 pm and will keep the finish line open as long as possible.  Runners will be informed when we open up traffic and we ask you to stay on the proper side of the road for your safety

Race Etiquette

For folks new to running and even those seasoned to the sport, it is always a good idea to keep some basic considerations in mind.   We have found that the information within the attached link accurately represents our philosophy and expectations for the Kiwanis Kingston Classic.    Please click here to read more!  http://www.rrca.org/education-advocacy/etiquette-for-runners/
